Reflective coatings technologies
Reflective coating technologies of treating the surface of lenses, prisms, and other optical parts to reduce reflection of light from optical surfaces bordering air. This allows you to increase the light transmission of the optical system and increase the contrast of the image due to the reduction of interfering parasitic reflections in the optical system.Most optical systems used, such as camera lenses and video cameras, consisting of many lenses and reflections from each glass-air interface reduces the transmitted useful light flux. Without the use of enlightenment methods, a drop in the intensity of transmitted light in a multi-lens system can reach several tens of percent. Therefore, all modern lenses use enlightened optics.Four ways are used to reduce the reflective coatings technologies coefficient from the surface, including the enlightenment of optics:
- Using interference thin layer coatings.
- Using the phenomenon of light polarization.
- Imparting micro text irregularities to the optical surface.
- Enlightenment by gradient change of refractive index.
Let’s take a closer look at how an anti-reflective coating is created on glasses. An incredibly thin layer of film or multiple films is applied to the surface of each lens. What does it do? The light transmission is increased, the contrast of the image is increased. All this happens by suppressing glare. The anti-reflective coating of the glasses reduces the reflectivity of the surface.Other names of such lenses anti-reflex, antireflective speak for themselves: the applied coating makes the lens lighter and more transparent. In anti-glare glasses, it is not the reflection of objects that is visible, but the eyes. This is because the rays of light are not reflected from the glass, but as if pass through it.
